FM200 Fire Suppression: How It Works and When You Need It in Pampanga
What Is FM200 Fire Suppression?
FM200 (HFC-227ea) is a clean-agent fire suppressant used to protect areas where water, foam, or dry chemical extinguishing agents would cause damage or leave residue. It is the most widely specified clean agent fire suppression system in the Philippines and is fully approved by international fire codes.
How FM200 Works
FM200 suppresses fire primarily by absorbing heat, rapidly reducing the temperature of the fire below its combustion point. It discharges in under 10 seconds, leaving no residue and requiring no cleanup. Unlike CO2, FM200 is safe for occupied spaces at design concentrations, making it ideal for areas where personnel may be present.
Where FM200 Is Required
FM200 systems are typically specified for: server rooms and data centers, telecommunications equipment rooms, control rooms and command centers, archive and document storage, and medical equipment rooms. Any space containing electronics or irreplaceable assets that cannot tolerate water damage is a candidate for FM200.
FM200 vs. CO2 Systems
CO2 systems are effective but are toxic to humans at suppression concentrations and cannot be used in occupied areas. FM200 is the preferred alternative where personnel safety is a concern. CO2 remains appropriate for unoccupied machinery spaces and marine applications.
Maintenance and Inspection
FM200 systems require annual inspection of cylinder weight, pressure, nozzle condition, and detection system integrity. BFP may inspect these systems as part of your Fire Safety Inspection Certificate renewal. SF Allied provides full maintenance programs for FM200 systems in Pampanga.
